The Mission of the Pacific Gateway Center
The purpose of Pacific Gateway is to help immigrants, refugees and low-income residents of Hawaii gain access to opportunities and services through the building of skills that lead to self-sufficiency while respecting the integrity of diverse cultural heritages.
The History of the Pacific Gateway Center
Pacific Gateway Center (formerly known as the Immigrant Center ) was founded in 1973 by the Palama Council of Churches, in Hawaii in response to the dramatic increase in Asian and Pacific Islands immigrants to Hawaii and the continental United States . In 1984, the Center became a private nonprofit 501 3 Corporation with its own governing board of directors. The Center also became a member of the Aloha United Way .
The Pacific Gateway Center Staff has the capability to communicate in many different languages and provides information and services in a culturally sensitive manner.
